9th August marks the National Day of the Republic of Singapore and the day is celebrated with a grand parade every year without fail.
Not wanting to be left out, the Singapore Business Association Vietnam’s Hanoi chapter planned a get together of all Singaporeans working or living in Hanoi to celebrate Singapore’s 43rd National Day with a live telecast of the parade.
The event was well attended by old timers and newcomers and became a good networking and get-to-know session for all present. More than 40 Singaporeans and friends of other nationalities turned up prepared to celebrate this joyous event.
At about 5.30pm (local time), patriotic Singaporeans dressed in the national colors started streaming in to the café and excited chatter and laughter could be heard throughout the café. As with all Singaporean events, food is indispensable and a wonderful spread of finger food like chicken wings, sandwiches, pizza etc was laid out.

Having had their fill of food and drinks, people began settling down on the chairs and couches and watched as tens of thousands of Singaporeans crammed into the promenades of Marina Bay. Although there was quite a heavy drizzle in the beginning, it did not dampen the celebratory spirits of the soldiers, performers and spectators.

THE SHOW MUST GO ON.
They were rewarded with a magnificent show as they clearly enjoyed the death-defying feats of the thunderous F16 Fighting Falcons and sky divers - traditional favourites and still popular.
The celebrations showcased the unique cosmopolitan melting pot of Singapore, from the jazzy sounds of teen heart throb Nathan Hartono to patriotic Teochew opera songs performed by street opera legend, Madam Tan Khar Luang, who was dressed as a general complete with war flags.

But what capped everything were the fireworks displays which illuminated the waterfront and glass facades of the skyscrapers. Bursts after bursts of fireworks came generously, as if wishing all Singaporeans Happy Birthday and More Good Years Ahead.

As the parade came to an end, Hanoi rounded up the party for a birthday song and cake after which everyone dispersed with some heading off for dinner while others back home to prepare for another grueling week ahead.
